PRESS RELEASE
Washington, D.C. — October 7, 2021 — We are pleased to announce the launch of the Democratic Council of Albanian Americans (DCAA).
DCAA is a volunteer organization whose mission is to strengthen democracy in the United States by supporting the Albanian American community’s participation in the political process, and Democratic candidates for office. DCAA is the natural outgrowth of over twenty-five years of community organizing and support for Democratic candidates in the United States.
We strive to support candidates and elected officials for causes important to our community. We also hope to encourage more Albanian Americans to intern in government offices, work at advocacy organizations, participate in political campaigns, and seek appointed and elected positions.
DCAA is led by a Board of Directors consisting of Democrats who are or have been elected officials, political appointees, candidates for offices, donors, and organizers. We pursue our mission through direct engagement with candidates and their campaigns, grassroots organizing, communications, and representation on the National Democratic Ethnic Coordinating Council of the Democratic National Committee.
We are guided by the strong belief that civic and political engagement are two of the most important responsibilities of citizenship. We believe in the fundamental principles of the United States to:
Those activities represent the promise of America and are central to the platform of the Democratic Party.
While we care very much about policy issues, DCAA is not focused on promoting any specific public policies nor are we an advocacy organization. We do, however, support efforts by other community organizations to secure bi-partisan support among American decision makers, including issues affecting Albanians abroad. By engaging in civic and political activities, we seek to increase the support of candidates and elected officials for causes important to our community.
Lastly, we celebrate the role of female leaders in our community and are proud that the majority of our Founding Board are women.
